The letterhead also has the flag for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The letter is written to 4 star General Richard L. Lawson, USAF (Ret), from General Myers, who writes, ” Dear General Lawson, As my tenure as Chairman comes to and end and I have the opportunity to reflect on 40 years of military service, I am filled with pride and humility. During my career, and particularly as the Chairman, I have drawn upon the strength and inspiration of Generals like yourself who continue to serve as the Air Force’s Senior Statesmen. As I join your ranks and retire from military service, please accept my sincere appreciation for all you accomplished on behalf of our Service members.
